September Sunday

September 9, 2012

Last night's football was a loss.  I couldn't even get Josh to tell
me the score.  Tonight he and Brianna are playing baskrtball
outside the kitchen window.  I honestly expect to have a broken
window one of these days.  They will even turn on the outside
spotlight so they can shoot balls.

Today I hoped to sew on my 750, but I didn't get to it.  I keep
doing some hand sewing though.  Last night I managed to cross stitch for an hour and a half.   YEH!!!  I will work on my hand
sewing again in just a few minutes.  I hope by one week I will have
a hoop size done.

This will be sewn into my "Orca Bay" quilt by Bonnie Hunter one of these days.  Bonnie did it as  a mystery quilt on her site last year.  Having her do it in sections really has taught me some...no..LOTS...of the methods to piecing.  Doing it with the other ladies  has brought it all together like a quilting bee.

Have a blessed Sunday!

Football Saturday Night

September 8, 2012

Tonight my husband and two youngest daughters went to Sparta
to see our youngest son Josh play football.  Josh is in eigth grade and takes his sports very seriously.  In fact I would say he counts
the days down until he plays.  Since he practices everyday after
school and plays on Saturdays that keeps him at football most
of the time.

The our youngest daughter is Haley.  Brianna is in the blue shirt.
Haley plays basketball and Brianna is in her first year of
Cheer leading on the high school JV team.

Tonight feels like football, too.  The weather outside has been threatening rain and it will be down in the 40's.  That being said, you now know why I am not at the field.  This arm has been causing me quite a bit of pain and cold weather amplifies the pain I have in my legs to almost unbearable.

I am missing my sewing machines something awful.  I need to
try to see what I can do with one arm.  I just haven't yet.  I have,
as my husband says, an addiction to sewing things.  I just purchased an old Singer 750.  It is still waiting for it's trial run. Maybe tomorrow.

    Have a good Saturday.

Sewing By Hand

September 7, 2012

Last night I did some cross stitching while Bonnie was on web
cam.  She can't possibly know how much fun it is to be sitting
here watching while I work.  The rows are going very slow
because of my arm but I do feel happy that I am sewing
at all.

I thought I would be doing my sewing in my chair.  Since I have
to prop the work up..this desk seems to be doing the trick.  You can see what I have accomplished in the hoop.

I don't seem to be able to follow Bonnie's directions about posting
my link.  The link comes up wrong and I soon won't be able to
fix it.  I wish I was smarter about this technology. I want to try to do a few more rows tonight.

Have a fun Friday night and be safe.

Making My Day With Singing

Every morning I awake to beautiful singing.  My two green finches, Tiny and Valentine, sing.  They were named because they were a
surprise Valentine's present from Wayne.

They haven't learned to sing like canaries yet, although I play videos of singing canaries every chance I get. I still think they
will though.  You can't have a bad day with a nest of cheerful
birds.

Today is beautiful outside.  It is getting cooler and it won't be long
until I will be showing you pictures of  the fall colors.

My wing changed colors today.  I went to the doctor and I got a new cast.  This one is a pretty purple.

I hope to be able to join Bonnie on Quiltville tonight so I can work on my challenge.  I have found it takes me forever to do a row of cross stitch..but I am so proud that despite the pain I can work on it.  Bonnie said she might do a live cam tonight and I love it.  I hope you are also checking out my quilting buddies blogs.  You will be really inspired.

Have a nice Thursday evening.

IN THE CLOUDS

September 5, 2012

Today is one of the days when the clouds just roll through the open windows.  Here on Laurel Ridge you might see the sun peek through about noon or not.

I usually like to do some reading or play with my sewing machines
on these days.

I have some machines that need to come out to sew a seam ot two. I must confess that I enjoy looking at them more than I do playing.
I am learning so much about machines and how they need to run
often from Bonnie Hunter.  I am going to try to put that hint into
use.

Last night as I watched Bonnie on webcam.  I propped up my embroidery hoop on my messy desk and even though it was only 2 rows of cross stitch I managed to get it done. I worked on my challenge.

Have a good Wednesday.

Broken Wing

I am squawking like someone is pulling all my feathers out at
once!   The cross stitch qiilt project that I agreed to start yesterday
turned into an ostrich egg.

  This old bird :

tripped into a vent hole..

                                  Yes, This very one.
I sprawled out like a huge lump...
                         My crutches didn't even help.

My faithful husband of almost 48 years forgot to tell
me that he had removed it.  Even his dog, Walker, didn't
spill the secret.

Now, I have a very bad headache. Old ladies and birds should know to not hit their heads on the corner of the cabinet.  They certainly should know hot coffee doesn't make for a refreshing shower...just a sticky mess.

Worst of all they should know that you can't hand
stitch with a broken wing.  This is the first actual break I
have had....  so I am lucky...but there goes my commitment
to do wing work.   That is unless I can figure out how to
use my beak.

I would urge all those who have any interest in quilting and history
to visit my favorite blog by Bonnie http://quiltville.blogspot.com/.
She is an encourager, a great author, a wonderful teacher and she
cares that you are who you are.  My bucket list includes getting together with all the friends I am making from her site and doing
a class with Bonnie.

                                Have a great Tuesday!!

Nest Building

Hi, I am Carolyn and I brood over a busy home perched on a mountain top.

                                                                      Tower Room

I created this blog to feather my nest with a printed cross stitch quilt that I began 41 years ago.

When I chose the quilt top, I wanted the one with the most embroidery on it so I would get my $10.00 worth of preening.  That was quite a bit of bird seed for me to spend at the time and I must say it has proven to be quite an egg to hatch.

Tonight, with a dauntless "Guide," dangling a worm in front of me, I decided that Egg has to beome a Chick!!!

That is it!  Out into the nest you come.

I made the commitment.  I found out about of ALL things how to try to scratch out a blog.   I  ruffled my feathers and stretched my wings.  I eagerly plunged from the edge of my perch, flew to the Tower, swooped down on my nesting material and landed back at the main nest.  Here the egg is.

One of my fledglings, Tinkerbelle, is warming the nest so I can settle down one hour
a day.

Tomorrow, September 3rd, the flight begins!
